When I was searching for an outdoor wedding location in 2012, it was difficult for me to find many of the locations that were near Columbia, SC that could host the wedding and reception. I found a few lists on different wedding websites like the Knot, and decoration ideas on Pinterest, but most of the actual locations I found were from general searches and driving around. I thought it would be useful for Columbia brides to have a list of outdoor wedding spaces available, so I bookmarked everything for later use. If you are just looking for a reception area, you can still look through the links below. These are in no particular order. The links are included for the locations that do have websites, so you can view the galleries and features.
Dupre Catering hosts 3 venues. They have The Hall and Wedding Garden, 300 Senate, and The Manor House. I believe you have to use their catering for these venues. I drove by and looked in 300 Senate and the exposed beams and paper lanterns are beautiful.
Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens is a wonderful place for an outdoor wedding as there is plenty of greenery! You can also use one of the buildings just for a reception.
The Lace House is a historic home with many different location options in the gardens. This was at the top of my list, but out of my price range. If you can't have your wedding or reception there, all is not lost. I had my bridal portraits taken in the gardens there and with the wrought iron gates and garden.
Wintergreen Woods is an all inclusive venue. They have an indoor room that opens to this area pictured with the trellis in the back, and a large covered deck on the side.
The Mitchell House and gardens in Lexington is all inclusive with 3 different wedding location options. They have an outdoor gazebo (pictured), a covered area with exposed beams outside, and room indoors for a small wedding. I have been to two weddings here. One was indoors, and one was under the covered outdoor area. It's been quite awhile, but I remember that the food was great and that I loved the outdoor area.
Seibels House and Garden is the location we chose for our wedding. Our wedding was under the Palmetto trees which made for gorgeous pictures that I am so happy with. We had food and cake indoors, and a tent with a dance floor outside. Amy at Seibels was great to work with, and I definitely recommend that location.
The Robert Mills House and Gardens is also rented by The Historic Columbia Foundation. There is less greenery outside than the Seibels house, but the yard seemed larger, so that area may be better for a larger tent or a large wedding. You could also just use the inside of the house for a reception.
Hampton-Preston Mansion and Gardens also had more open space available outside; 4 acres to be exact. According to the website, you can fit up to 400 people in the garden, so this is a good space for a large wedding or reception.
Since this page is getting a bit long, I'll continue with more venues on the next post. I do want to point out that the Historic Columbia foundation also rent The Big Apple for receptions, and the garden only at the Woodrow Wilson family home. There are no pictures yet of the garden.
