I wanted to make some shoes for myself to match my husband’s and to use up the rest of the dye. Please see the previous post for the instructions and list of supplies. Tulip dye says it is best within 24 hours. My shoes were delivered a day late from Amazon so my dye had been mixed for 48 hours. There were two differences in the way I made my shoes compared to my husband’s. First, instead of the Tulip soda ash, I used washing soda. Washing soda takes waaaay more than soda ash. Instead of the little packet, I used 4 cups in 1 tub. Luckily both of my shoes fit in one tub. I also put a shirt in there to soak after my shoes were done so I could get more use out of that washing soda. Difference number two is that I ran out of purple. On my husband’s shoes, I followed a tutorial that used the blues, then pink, then purple was on top as the primary color. Since I only had a tiny bit left, and I wanted a bit more blue to show through on mine, I did light blue, then pink, then purple, then dark...
I wanted to make my husband some Galaxy shoes for his birthday. He chose high tops, and he wears size 11, so I needed one tub per shoe. They just fit so for shoes larger than size 11 you will need a larger container. If you are doing size 7 or smaller, they will likely both fit in one container. To replicate this you will need: -2 plastic tubs (Dollar store) -2 cans of shaving cream -plastic tablecloth (dollar store) -canvas shoes (I got these off Amazon) -painters tape -Tulip Celestial dye kit -Tulip soda ash -Synthrapol -white paint, toothbrush, and tiny paint brush if you want stars The tulip dye kit comes with the powder already in bottles and with gloves. If you are using dye powder, you will need to also get bottles (2oz ones are sold in 2 packs at the dollar store), gloves, and a mask. I removed the laces and pulled out the tongues. Following another tutorial, I clipped the tongues for when submerging in synthrapol. I do NOT recommend this as it left a small stain where the clip...
