  I don't want to call this a 'Pinterest Fail', as it was so delicious, but it did not look as well as the photo i was trying to emulate. I think it's because I had so much more space to work with as I opted for a 'fruit pizza' instead of a pie so that we would have more servings. This is the picture I saw on Pinterest originally: The Pinterest link was to a blog talking about options for a Game of Thrones party, but it did not have a tutorial to make the pie. I just wanted to copy the dragons made out of fruit anyway, so that was fine with me. I wanted to make something fun for my toddler age niece and my friends son whom I consider a nephew. The Super Why show is popular for their age and I know my niece loves dress up so I decided to make superhero capes. I made a template and cut out two sides to sew together.  The first one I made has red fleece for the inner lining, which is what many tutorials recommended.  My niece likes more 'girly' dress up, but I didn't have any satin like material in pink so I did a silver lining. I decided to make it reversible with a pink letter. I wish I'd done the same on the first one, as I think it looks better than the fleece.  I sewed the opposite sides of all but the tops, then turned them inside out and pressed the edges. I added ribbon on each side when sewing the top. I wanted to personalize them so I cut round pieces of fleece then cut letters to see on. An appliqué would have been much easier. I didn't take pictures of the process while making this since I wasn't really going by a pattern. I traced the shape of another purse to get the size for outer fabric, but I made it smaller with the pleating. This was my first time pleating and I was surprised it was so easy! I added interfacing to make it a little bit stronger. I traced the lining by the new shape and sewed a pocket into the lining before I sewed it together. I did not do a great job getting a straight line when seeing the lining in with the top of the purse as the satin polyester  was not folding for me (even after ironing).  The red satin and the lining are both from an old bridesmaid dress. Yay for recycling! I used the dress to make the straps as well, but I only had enough fabric for two short straps rather than one long one. This won't be an everyday purse but I got practice and a new use out of an old bridesmaid dress that was taking up closet space.

Was anyone else reminded of this character from The Incredibles when watching The Wind Rises?   I kept thinking Kurokawa's voice in the English version should have been done by Gilbert Godfried instead of Martin Short. From the beginning of the film, I was immediately thinking about costumes. I like Jiro's train outfit better than the suit throughout the film, but that may be because of the barbershop quartet type hat.     It's not very likely i'll ever put this together, but here is an idea for a couples costume This may be the most visually stunning anime i've seen yet. The fire and the wind looks computer animated, and i was amazed by how fluid the movements of the characters were. Even so, it is not my favorite Ghibli film.
